891 Hectare Farm in Molteno

This 891-hectare property known as Bloemtuin, is situated in the Molteno district within the Stormberg Mountains, is renowned as prime Cattle and Sheep Country.

To ensure their livestock thrives, farmers provide necessary supplements year-round. The icy winters of the Stormberg contribute to the belief among local farmers that simply letting animals graze the veld without supplementation isn't feasible for optimal performance.

The elevated location, standing at 1700 meters above sea level, experiences an annual rainfall of 550 to 600 mm. With a grazing capacity of 4 hectares per LSU (Livestock Unit), the area benefits from the presence of the Stormberg flat leaf grass, scientifically known as Tetrachne dregei Nees or "Cocks Foot," which is highly nutritious for both sheep and cattle.

Bloemtuin is meticulously managed, divided into 30 camps in a wagon wheel pattern. The Sweet veld, with a grazing capacity initially at 6.5 ha per LSU, has been optimized to 4.0 ha per LSU through wagon wheel veld management. The fertility of the livestock is notably high, boasting a conception rate of over 90% on average, with a clean yield exceeding 75%.

Infrastructure on the farm includes 30 grazing camps with water troughs and fountains, netted boundary fences, internal netted camps, a network of roads ranging from good to fair condition, cattle and sheep handling facilities, cement reservoirs, watering points, stock dams, fountains, boreholes, and windmills (one solar-powered, one not operational). Additionally, there's a 25 kVA Escom 3-phase power supply (currently switched off), reliable cell reception, and Wi-Fi availability.

The terrain comprises 15% mountainous veld, 75% plains and koppies, and 10% vlei veld. Accommodation includes a laborer's house, a main house with a kitchen, dining room, lounge, sunroom, three bedrooms, and one bathroom, as well as two storerooms, a single garage/workshop, a washroom/store room, and a rondavel. Further features encompass two 3.5 Senter Pivots, 4 ha of dragline lands requiring servicing of drag pipes and sprays, and 20 ha of drylands.

The property also boasts diverse game, including Mountain Reedbuck, Springbuck, Duiker, and various other species, although specific numbers are not available.
